What drives the price of air duct cleaning
Duct cleaning is scoped by the number of systems, vents, and how reachable the runs are. A complete job should address supply and return trunks, branch ducts, registers, and accessible air-handler components while the system is under controlled negative pressure. Large homes, multiple systems, inaccessible attic ducts, heavy construction debris, and confirmed pest contamination add time. Flex duct and fiberglass-lined duct require gentler methods than bare sheet metal.
Pin down what "whole system" means before comparing anyone. Blower, coil, drain pan, return plenum, dryer vent, access-panel installation, filter replacement, and register cleaning may be separate. EPA does not recommend routine duct cleaning for household dust, and cleaning alone has not been shown to prevent health problems. Wet or moldy internal insulation may need replacement instead.
Worth asking the shop
What visible contamination justifies cleaning? Which ducts and HVAC components are included? How will negative pressure and debris capture be maintained? Are any biocides, sealants, or access holes proposed, and why?
Red flags
Tiny coupon prices followed by per-vent charges, claiming EPA certification, showing a petri dish as proof of dangerous mold, spraying ozone or unapproved biocide into ducts, or cleaning mold without correcting moisture and contaminated insulation.
