Anonymous by design
What Neighbors Paid has no accounts, no sign-ups, and collects no names, email addresses, or profiles. You can read and contribute prices without ever telling us who you are.
What we do process
- Submissions and votes: to prevent spam, we compute a one-way salted hash from your IP address and browser signature. The hash cannot be reversed into your IP, is never displayed, and is used only for rate limiting and preventing duplicate votes. Raw IP addresses are never stored.
- Price reports: the service, amount, currency, date, zip/postal code, and optional provider name you enter. None of this identifies you.
- Analytics: two tools, both measuring pages rather than people. Vercel Analytics is cookieless and aggregate-only. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to count visits and see which pages people find useful; we have turned off its advertising features, so it is not used for ad targeting, remarketing, or building a profile of you. Price-check events record only whether the checker was used on the home or city page, whether the entry was a quote or a paid bill, the comparison scope, and a broad error stage. They never include the price, zip code, service text, or report contents. You can opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with Google’s browser add-on, or by using your browser’s tracking protection.
What we don’t do
- No ads, no advertising trackers, and no remarketing. Google Analytics is here to count page visits, with its ad features switched off.
- No selling of personal data. We don’t have any to sell.
- No author identities from public posts: we keep the post text, source link, and community name only, never usernames.
Data from public sources
Some prices are gathered from publicly posted forum content, always labeled as such and linked to their source. We periodically re-check sources and purge content that has been deleted at the source. If you authored a public post we’ve referenced and want it removed, delete the original post or contact us with the link.
