What drives the price of alternator replacement
Alternator prices split on the part: new OEM costs the most, quality remanufactured is the usual middle ground, and bargain units often come with short warranties and higher comeback rates. Higher-amperage alternators on loaded vehicles cost more.
Labor depends entirely on where your alternator lives. On many cars it's an hour at the top of the engine; on some it's buried under the intake or accessible only from below, and the labor doubles. Having the serpentine belt replaced at the same time usually costs only the price of the belt.
Worth asking the shop
New or remanufactured, and what's the warranty? Was the charging system tested, or is this a guess? Should the belt be done while it's apart?
