What drives the price of car battery replacement

Battery price is mostly determined by your car, not the shop. Larger group sizes cost more, and vehicles with start-stop systems typically require AGM or EFB batteries at roughly double a standard flooded battery. Many newer cars also need the new battery electronically registered so charging behaves correctly, a step quick-swap prices sometimes leave out.

Warranty terms differ meaningfully: a battery with three years of free replacement is a different product from one with a short free period and a long pro-rated tail.
