Electrical-panel work ranges from replacing a panel at the same amperage to upgrading the service from 100 to 200 amps. A service upgrade may require larger entrance conductors, a meter socket, mast or underground conduit, grounding and bonding, and utility coordination. Panel location, damaged feeders, crowded circuits, and trenching can make the work much larger than changing the breaker box.
Code-related work is handled differently from one electrician to the next. Permits, utility disconnect and reconnect, circuit labeling, grounding electrodes, surge protection, and required AFCI or GFCI protection may be included or listed as allowances.
