What drives the price of exhaust / muffler repair
Exhaust work ranges from a cheap flex-pipe weld to a full system. Independent muffler shops that fabricate and weld sections are usually far cheaper than bolt-on OEM part replacement for the same fix. A rattling heat shield or a cracked flex pipe is often an hour of labor, not a new system.
Rust-belt cars trend toward bigger jobs since fasteners and adjacent sections fail together. OEM systems cost the most; quality aftermarket is the usual middle path.
Worth asking the shop
Can this section be repaired or welded instead of replaced? Is the leak upstream of the sensors (an emissions and safety issue) or just noise?
