What drives the price of fence installation
A fence quote is built from linear footage, plus gates and demolition. Material changes parts and labor: chain-link uses fabric and tensioning, vinyl uses routed posts and panels, and wood requires individual rails and pickets. Height, slope, rocky or expansive soil, tree roots, and corner count affect post layout and digging. Large drive gates need stronger posts and hardware than walk gates.
Quote gaps commonly hide below ground. Post material, hole depth and diameter, concrete, gravel, removal of the old fence, hauling, grading, permits, and property-line surveying may be excluded. Decorative caps, stain, rot boards, steel posts, and upgraded gate frames are separate choices. Utility locating does not establish a legal property boundary.
Worth asking the shop
What post size, spacing, depth, and concrete method will be used? Are gates, demolition, hauling, permits, and staining included? Who confirms property lines and calls 811? How will the fence step or follow the slope?
Red flags
Setting shallow posts to finish faster, building on an assumed boundary without pins or a survey, using untreated wood where soil contact requires protection, or quoting long fence runs accurately but leaving gate frames and hardware as undefined extras.
