What drives the price of garage door replacement
Opening size, construction, and design set the baseline for a new garage door. A steel pan door is different from an insulated double door with polyurethane core, windows, decorative hardware, or wood cladding. Door weight determines the spring system and hardware. Low headroom, high-lift tracks, uneven framing, wind-load requirements, and removal of a heavy old door add labor or specialized parts.
First find out whether "door replacement" includes the operating system. Tracks, torsion springs, drums, cables, rollers, perimeter weather seal, bottom seal, opener, remotes, keypad, haul-away, and permits may be separate. Insulation claims should identify the tested R-value and construction, not just call the door efficient. An existing opener may need different reinforcement or may be unsuitable for the new door.
Worth asking the shop
Which panels, tracks, springs, seals, and hardware are new? Is the opener included or reused? Does the door meet local wind-load rules? Are removal, disposal, permits, and final balance testing included?
Red flags
Reusing springs sized for the old door, installing a new door on bent tracks, quoting panels without required hardware, or connecting the opener before confirming that the door stays balanced and moves freely by hand.
