What drives the price of gutter replacement
Gutter companies quote by the linear foot, but material, profile, and roof geometry matter just as much. Seamless aluminum is formed on site, while copper, steel, and sectional systems require different fabrication and labor. Two-story eaves, steep roofs, many corners, and limited ladder access increase setup. Gutter width and downspout capacity should match roof area and rainfall, not simply copy an undersized old system.
Downspouts and underlying repairs are the fine print. End caps, miters, outlets, hangers, elbows, extensions, removal, and disposal can each be their own line. Rotten fascia discovered after removal is separate carpentry. Leaf guards can equal or exceed the gutter work, and they do not correct poor slope, too few downspouts, or drainage that empties beside the foundation.
Worth asking the shop
What gutter and downspout sizes are specified? How many downspouts and outlets are included? What hanger spacing and slope will be used? How are fascia repairs and underground drain connections priced?
Red flags
Reusing rotten fascia, hanging new gutters level with no drainage pitch, routing downspouts against the foundation, selling leaf guards as a cure for undersized gutters, or fastening through shingles in a way that can create roof leaks.
