What drives the price of head gasket repair
Head gasket quotes are dominated by labor and by what's found once the head is off. A proper job includes sending the head to a machine shop to check for warping and resurfacing. Skipping that step is how head gasket jobs get done twice.
On high-mileage engines, compare the quote against a used or remanufactured engine before committing; the labor is similar and the result is sometimes better. Overheating is usually what killed the gasket, so the cooling system fault needs fixing too or the new gasket follows the old one.
