What drives the price of whole-house repipe
Fixture count, pipe material, layout, and access shape a whole-house repipe. PEX can be routed through smaller openings and around obstacles, while copper requires more fittings, soldering, and material. Multiple stories, slab foundations, basements, tiled walls, and distant fixtures increase openings and labor. Replacing supply piping does not include drains, sewer, or every fixture unless stated.
Endpoints and restoration decide how finished the job really is. Main shutoff, pressure regulator, manifolds, branch lines, fixture stops, hose bibs, water-heater connections, insulation, permits, drywall openings, patching, texture, paint, and testing may be bundled differently. A service line from meter to house is separate. Old galvanized pipe may leave low-flow fixtures or corroded valves needing replacement.
Worth asking the shop
Which piping and fixtures are included from the service entry onward? Is the material copper, PEX-A, or PEX-B, and which fittings are used? Who patches walls and ceilings? Are permits, pressure testing, insulation, valves, and water-heater connections included?
Red flags
Calling drain replacement part of a supply repipe without separate scope, using unlisted fittings, abandoning live pipe inside walls, or promising no wall openings in a finished multi-story home without explaining the routing.
