What drives the price of sewer line repair / replacement
Length, depth, condition, and what sits above the route decide the price of a sewer line. A shallow line through open soil is different from one beneath a driveway, mature landscaping, retaining wall, or city street. Conventional excavation exposes the pipe; pipe bursting pulls a replacement through the old path; cured-in-place lining creates a liner inside suitable pipe. Not every damaged or collapsed line can use a trenchless method.
The number that matters is where the contractor's responsibility stops. Camera inspection, locating, cleanouts, excavation, bedding, pipe material, connection at the house or city main, permits, traffic control, and surface restoration may be split among line items. Landscaping, concrete, and asphalt restoration are frequently excluded even when the plumbing itself is complete.
Worth asking the shop
Can I see the full camera recording and marked defect locations? Why is replacement preferable to a spot repair or lining? Who handles permits, utility locating, city connection, inspections, backfill, and surface restoration?
Red flags
Recommending full replacement from a brief camera glimpse, refusing to provide the recording, calling a collapsed line suitable for lining without explaining preparation, or quoting excavation without defining who restores the driveway and yard.
