What drives the price of tooth extraction
Tooth extraction is priced as simple or surgical. An erupted tooth with accessible roots may be loosened and removed with forceps. A broken, impacted, or decayed tooth may require a gum incision, bone removal, sectioning, and sutures. Curved roots, dense bone, proximity to a nerve or sinus, infection, and medical concerns increase planning and operating time.
The extraction itself is only one line item. The exam, X-ray or CBCT scan, local anesthetic, sedation, pathology, antibiotics, pain medication, and follow-up may be separate. Socket preservation with bone graft material is an additional procedure that can be useful when a future implant is planned, but it is not automatically required after every extraction.
Worth asking the shop
Is this expected to be simple or surgical? What imaging and anesthesia are included? Why is a bone graft recommended, and is an implant planned? Are sutures, medication, and follow-up included?
Red flags
Classifying an obviously surgical extraction as simple to advertise a low price, insisting every socket needs a graft without discussing replacement plans, extracting before reviewing relevant medications and health history, or adding sedation after treatment begins without prior consent.
