What drives the price of veneers
Veneers are priced per tooth, with material and preparation driving the fee. Porcelain veneers require laboratory fabrication and usually some enamel reduction, while direct composite veneers are shaped chairside and are easier to repair but stain and wear differently. Correcting color alone is simpler than masking severe discoloration, closing large spaces, changing tooth position, or rebuilding a worn bite.
Planning and supporting treatment are the quiet line items. Digital design, diagnostic wax-up, temporary veneers, gum contouring, whitening adjacent teeth, replacement of old fillings, bite adjustment, and night protection may be separate. The number of treated teeth affects symmetry and color matching. Veneers are primarily cosmetic, so dental insurance and health spending accounts commonly exclude them.
Worth asking the shop
Is this porcelain or direct composite? How much enamel will be removed? Are mock-up, temporaries, gum work, final adjustments, and a night guard included? How will untreated neighboring teeth be color matched?
Red flags
Calling veneers reversible after substantial enamel preparation, recommending them over untreated decay or active gum disease, promising they can correct every bite problem, or heavily reducing healthy teeth before you approve the shape and shade plan.
