The spread on alignments is modest but real: four-wheel alignments cost more than front-only (and most modern cars need four-wheel), and some shops sell lifetime alignment plans that pay off quickly if you keep the car. Expect to need one after any steering or suspension repair, after hitting something hard, or with uneven tire wear.

If the shop can't bring a wheel into spec, correcting it can require camber bolts or other extra parts. That's a legitimate add-on, but it should be a conversation, not a surprise on the invoice.
