What drives the price of window cleaning
Residential window cleaning is priced by pane, window, or labor time, so the counting method matters. A double-hung unit may have multiple glass surfaces, removable screens, tracks, and divided panes. Storm windows, skylights, French panes, exterior glass, steep terrain, and lift access add handling. Construction debris, paint, silicone, mineral deposits, and oxidation require more than routine soap-and-squeegee cleaning.
Which surfaces are included is the whole ballgame. Interior and exterior glass, screens, tracks, sills, frames, hard-water treatment, scraping, ladder work, and screen repair may be separate. Some companies count each pane or side, while others quote the full opening. Scrapers can safely remove certain deposits from compatible glass, but tempered or coated glass needs identification and careful testing.
Worth asking the shop
Is the count by opening, pane, or glass surface? Are interiors, exteriors, screens, tracks, and sills included? What costs extra for storms, skylights, or mineral deposits? How will coated or tempered glass be identified and protected?
Red flags
A per-window price with no definition of "window," scraping unknown glass without a test area, promising routine washing will remove etched mineral damage, or adding ladder and second-side charges only after work begins.
