What drives the price of wisdom tooth extraction
Wisdom-tooth removal is priced per tooth, with position and impaction driving the work. An erupted upper tooth can be straightforward, while a deeply bony lower tooth may require a gum flap, bone removal, sectioning, and careful work near the inferior alveolar nerve. Root shape, sinus proximity, infection, and treating all four teeth together affect operating time.
Anesthesia moves the total more than the teeth do. Local anesthetic, oral sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia carry different staffing, monitoring, and facility requirements. A panoramic X-ray, possible CBCT scan, pathology, medications, and follow-up can land inside the package or outside it. The quote should identify each tooth and whether it is erupted, soft-tissue impacted, partially bony, or completely bony.
Worth asking the shop
How is each wisdom tooth classified? What imaging supports the plan? Which anesthesia and monitoring are included? Is there unusual nerve or sinus risk, and could coronectomy be considered?
Red flags
One low package price with no impaction classifications or anesthesia details, removing symptom-free teeth without explaining the clinical reason, using IV sedation without documented monitoring, or promising zero nerve risk for a lower tooth whose roots lie close to the nerve canal.
